In a message David Dierlam <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>writes: << See if you can fix this: I bought a Quantum Atlas III scsi hard drive. It came with SCSI 0. I had to change it because my startup disc already has the ID set as 0. I placed a TE and got an ID of 4. I initialized it thru drive set up on the CD. It appreared on the desktop just like it should. When i restart the computor, it disappears. I again have to reinitialize it like before. Any guesses on this one? PM 7500. >>
You probably have a jumper set incorrectly. TE is the termination jumper and has nothing to do with the SCSI ID. Only the last device on the SCSI chain needs to be terminated. So . . . if you still have the original drive connected and it was terminated you now have two drives terminated -- not good. If you haven't done so go to the Maxtor support site (they took over the Quantum Atlas drives): http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.57739892ade91820a72711629134 6068/?channelpath=/en_us/Support/Product%20Support (cut and paste no spaces) Go to the SCSI section and select Atlas III. There is a number of docs with info on your drive. I accidentally downloaded a PDF of Atlas III jumper settings from that site which I can forward if you like.
