Hello Please excuse my ignorance, I've just joined this list. For some background on me: I have just gotten back into the Macintosh experience. I first learned on Macs, and after years and years of withdrawal, I got an old Performa 6200CD (for free thank god) six months ago. Quite recently, I received a PM 6400/180 with an internal Global Village Teleport Platinum V modem. I guess I got lucky, this is the modem that Apple originally shipped with the computer. Since I didn't get the original install CD with the computer, I installed a copy of 7.6 from a retail CD I had and upgraded to 7.6.1. The problem I'm having is this: whenever I plug in the phone line into the computer it automatically "connects" and won't hang up. I am very sure (to my knowledge of PPP 1.1.1 and TCP/IP control panels) that some piece of software is not automatically connecting the modem. This is very annoying since I can't leave the phone line plugged into the computer all the time, because if I do the phones in my house will blare that annoying "the phone is off the hook you idiot!" tone. I went to global village's web site to download the drivers for this modem, but found out from them that I needed to download the Apple Telecomm software since their drivers don't apply to their modems that Apple shipped with their systems. This I did. Still have the same problem. Removed the modem from the comm slot and reinserted it. Same problem. I can get on the internet if I quickly connect right after I plug in the phone line, but I would prefer to leave the phone line hooked into the computer all the time. I could do this with my Teleport Gold II on my Performa 6200CD. Obviously I am doing something wrong. Please advise! -- Andrew Conachey
