Well, this is well known, streaming video over dialup is not good, it is not
bad for radio though. I can see you are not impressed by what I said about
the limiting factor really being the isp connection, not much to do with the
cpu!

I have told people that on this list for years. As I told the person who started the thread this spun off of! Dialup is dialup. I just told of ways I had tried to get the most out of it that is possible. Which isn't very much.

Where I live, broadband is cheap enough, even as cheap as dialup to run
given a few factors. There are many deals where they don't charge more
running costs than the unlimited dial up deals. What they do do is put a cap
on your downloads and throttle you back to modem speeds for the rest of the
month after you have exceeded this limit. Sometimes the throttle back is
faster than 56K or so it is advertised. Mostly the cheap deals are from $19
to $29 and the limit for these is about 200 MB. You can do a fair bit of
ordinary surfing for this. Of course, for movies, it will eat it up, but
even then, it is good for quite a few shorts of about 3 to 5 MB. Set up
costs are a bit, maybe about $200 all up. You are not worse off (unless you
have special needs like me)

I am waiting for a new job to start> I will go with a local cable broadband that is faster than DSL. They have some good deals. I think I can just plug into my PCI 10/100 card. So there should not be a setup fee.

I tried the bigha site again. They changed the bike videos. The Flash animation will play after it totally gets buffered which takes forever. Worse than a direct download!

I think a mini Mac or Sawtooth is in my near future. Actually there was a real bargain dual G4 on the swap list yesterday. But not enough cash right now.
