David...
What idiosyncracies are you referring to? I currently
have the CPU Director software controlling a Newer
Technology 500MHz CPU, so it does also work with other
brands of CPU upgrades.
Please let me know what exactly you are having
problems with.
Thank you.

Gordon, et al.
I'm not actually having "problems" with the CPU Director S'ware, but
rather was extremely curious about its behavior when the so-called
Dynamic Power Management option was enabled. That is, the numbers
indicating the CPU/Cache speed change!
According to the docs:
"For maximum energy conservation, you should also make sure that
dynamic power management has been enabled. Dynamic power management
allows the processor to cut power to units in the CPU when they are
idle. This results in less power use as well as a cooler-running
processor. Dynamic power management does not result in a performance
degradation and thus it is recommended that it always be enabled."
In periodically checking the CPU D s'ware with this enabled and the
proc/cache speed set to 950Mhx...I find the proc/cache speed actually
reading as anything from 948 to 951! (At that point, the numbers in
the actual "list" of settings all change to correspond to those!)
Powerlogix support, rather than explaining this "undocumented
feature" told me that Dynamic Power Management does NOT actually
step-down the cpu/cache speed while the computer is idle "on these
units". And further said "It is more than likely a variable in your
bus speed. Not an issue."
Huh?? Anyone want to try and decipher that? :-)
I'd also like to see a CPU Temperature in this s'ware and suggested
such, but Powerlogix support said "No, there is no utility at this
time". The alternative utilities I've tried do NOT report the temp.
correctly. (My 9600 doesn't live in a 68F office environment, FWIW.)
Also, I should mention that I still have the original tt128m aka Twin
Turbo 8MB PCI video board running in this 9600/350. However I DO not
have any of the Quickdraw 3D, GX, or other video extensions running,
other than 9600 Graphics Accelerator.
Cheers,
David
