This is a Machine specific OS CD. Sometimes they work on other than the original Mac, sometimes they do not. You probably need a retail OS 9 CD, which will look just like your other CD below.
plus i have a white cd with a big 9 on it. it is a os9.2.1 update cd. when i put the cd in. and try to install it , it pops up can't install this on this computer
This will only update a 9.1 installed system to 9.2.1, it does not have a full OS 9 installation on it. You will also need to use a helper application to get past 9.1 on your 5500. See http://os9forever.com/ for more info.
Basically, you need to get a retail OS 9 disk, which will be white with an orange 9 on it.
