I have a MAXpowr PCI G3/500/1M card. It was working in a 9600/200 with the settings that Peter H describes (see below) for the Mach V machines, even though I verified that the logic board is NOT a Mach V motherboard.
I'm trying to get it to work in my PowerTower Pro. I have not been able to get it to work -- beyond the appearance of the "Starting Up" screen -- despite using different startup drives with different OS's (9.1 and 9.2.2), with extensions off or on, with various drives connected or not, and even in another PTP with no PCI cards other than the original video card! I have tried it with both the original switch settings and with all up, at least if "up" means "away from the card"! Before I start the awkward process of trying to rearrange and recombine RAM, could somebody tell me what the different switch settings do? BTW, I'm at this moment using the PTP with a 250 MHz card that came with one of my PTP's. I was using it for years with a Sonnet G3/450/1M card -- until a few days ago when I somehow toasted that card while playing around with different RAM configurations. (That was the second time one of those Sonnet cards burned up on me. Fortunately, the first time it was still under warranty. I don't know why they can't make those cards with a thermal switch that would shut off the processor when it gets too hot!) - Aaron >To: "PCI PowerMacs" <[email protected]> >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Date: Fri, 29 Jul 2005 23:39:04 EDT >Subject: Re: [PCI] Info needed for MAXpowr PCI 300/200/1.0 > > >>Can anyone tell me the switch settings for 7300, 7600, >>9600, and 9500 ?? > >All up for pre-Mach 5; up, down, down, up for Mach 5. > >Only certain 8600 and 9600 models came in a Mach 5 variant; all others >came in pre-Mach 5 variant. > >In general, 233 MHz and lower are pre-Mach 5; 250 MHz and above are Mach >5. > >This refers to the original Apple CPU, of course, not to any replacement >or upgrade. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
