This is news to me, an upgrade in the L2 slot and you keep the old processor where it was? Surely not? In fact, it is usual to remove the L2 cache altogether when replacing the CPU. If I am not mistaken, remove this L2, ensure your processor upgrade is seated properly in the processor slot and any fan attached to it is functioning properly and try again...
