Could it be that you've set Toast's prefs to put the cache on
another drive(or partition) or even upon a RAM Disk?, that 
now is either gone or perhaps unmounted? Or that the Sony
DVD-R media is rated too fast for the burner to be able to
handle?, which may be why the speeds are grayed out and
unchooseable. I do believe the HD must have the contiguous
space, but if'n it is 80% full or better, or even if'n it hasn't 
been optimized and the DT rebuilt lately, well then, you
might wanna try those lil' ditties. Do let us know how you
fair with this problem.
