Not worth ha'penny on this occasion Mike... :)

First you don't *have to* to update anything if you do go to X
because of two things:

1. You can still boot in 9 for many "newer macs" (compared to
the 8500)

2. You can run most pre X software in X in a special program
called Classic.

The big advantage is speed of bus even in 9, and access to
modern browsers in X. But I agree that one can continue fine
with 9 for quite a while...
