It should work to click and drag the window frome either the Right side bottom and then as you bring it down you can incrementally shrink the window by click draging the square in the bottom right corner. You could alternately try creating a new window under the Window menu and closing the original using Command-w... I just tried this second method on my desktop and it worked fine. Hope this helps.
