Yes ... I remember RAM check in OS 9 can take quite awhile ... if its
turned on.
Can make you think things aren't working ...

I don't know about the lack of video with the Sonnet card, but the
more RAM
you have the slower it will be to start up, as it needs to test it all
before
it can boot. My 9600 with 384mb RAM takes about 30 seconds until it
displays
any video.
