Then try Picture viewer, the app that comes w/QT. if the purpose is
merely looking at JPEGs, this works very fine. Thinks I.

that is probably a good thought but GC takes about 5 seconds to
start and then it grabs a lot of ram, cause it needs that to
process other tasks like multiconversion. jpeg view loads in a
blink - I have also that Corrupt JPEG data found problem,
and all that started when some internet standards were changed,
from one day to another almost it was so.

JPEGView is what it defaults to when I click on a JPEG, one other
kind
of file (different looking, not with the "J" and "JPEG" on the face)
will default to PictureViewer. I didn't have the JPEGView JFIF Ext.
installed (I stuck it in the Ext. folder this time).
In the JPEGView prefs its set to automatically fix incorrect file
types (I have always seen it set this way so I have never messed with
this setting).
