There is no lack of pride or ego associated with any so called technician, so arguing or even contradicting them will only result in alienation of any meaningful communication. I've read the responses from other listers and although I am no technical expert, I can say that I personally have at least 7 working models of similar design in my home as we speak. It is very possible that your problem is the power supply. It can also be a few other things as well. These machines require the square 4.5 volt battery that usually has velcro on one side to secure it to the motherboard. Unplug the unit (any wires attached to the back). Undo the 2 screws on the back of the machine and gently pry the bottom latches off the bottom and lower the back-plate. You should be able to remove the motherboard easily. Detach and test the battery with a volt meter. Replace if necessary. I buy them on eBay for $5.00 or so, if your unit spends much time unplugged and the battery is any age, this "might" be your problem.

If you would like me to send you a pdf manual of the 5400, I will do so, however, it's a 3.1 Mb file and your email might not be able to accept it.

I can understand your interest in wanting to find out the problem and correct it if it can be done so cost effectively. Let me point out that these models can be purchased on ebay in whole or in part for $20-40.00, give or take. It might be worthwhile to invest that amount of money in a used B&W G3 or even a used iMac. The prices for these units are in the same ballpark as the 5400's are and you have way more RAM capacity to enjoy and faster speeds to reap the benefits of.

Just my 2ยข worth.

Whelp, the local guy wouldn't even go so far as to test the PS on it.
Says that Macs are "too difficult to work on" and that "there are some
20 wires from the PS to the MB" (yet a Mac place I spoke to in
California (I am in Missouri but have bought RAM from them) said there
are some 8 wires to mess with). The local guy even said he had worked
on a Mac just like mine before (I guess another all-in-one model).
So, how do I find someone who cold at least run some tests and tell me
whats wrong with this beastie?
