You have changed my computer experience in an enjoyable experience. Quite recently (2 years) I have moved to Linux because I was seeking for freedom (of choice and configuration), but I have never been happy with the 2 main DE available. My perception of a good DE is a light, functional, and non-intrusive GUI from which I launch my applications and browse my documents (because I can't manage a full CLI environment). Since I am probably the least Linux knowledgeable on the lists. The Fedora LXDE Spin really helped me out using LXDE, gnome free. Unfortunately, most of the applications I use (e.g. Shutter) install their huge Gnome dependencies (Shutter even bring Nautilus along...), but I won't do without them. There is a French proverbs saying: "entre deux maux il faut choisir le moindre" (Between two evils, choose the least).
