I am working on improving pcre2_match(), but that will not be in the next
release.

I'm sorry, I don't understand that question.

Actively maintained software evolves all the time, but the speed depends on how
much time/effort the maintainers put into it. PCRE is now nearly 20 years old
and has changed dramatically as new requirements have appeared and I have
learned more.
