Another workaround is to set the PCRE2_NO_AUTO_POSSESS option, but of course that will also suppress legitimate auto-possessification. I will look at this some more; if there is a trivial fix I might be able to slip it into the forthcoming 10.31 release, for which a Release Candidate is currently under testing.
