All, I've had problems with the VIA 4 in 1 drivers before
(and had complaints from others as well) from VIA's WEBSITE.
It is best to get the drivers/patches from the motherboard
manufacturer's site, in this case, Tyan. I'm not sure why
but I would guess what you get from VIA's site is too
'generic'.

Peter.....I have been having problems with the VIA 4in1
drivers also.....my
problem revolves more around my CD Rom tho (seems the 4in1
drivers cause my
computer to lock when copy/pasting from my CD's to my hard
drive).....anyway....there's a patch, but it's still in beta
release as far
as I know cuz I can't find it on the VIA site yet, but you
might want to
check it out:
http://www.viahardware.com/talkback/989413845,93307,.shtm
or you can keep an eye out at the VIA site and see when the
official patch
shows up there.....if you see it, PLEASE let me know cuz I
haven't had the
guts to try the beta one yet (If you try the beta, I'd like
to know how it
works for you tho)
VIA's site, if you don't already have it:

lockup
I have a 700 mhz Celeron, Tyan 2507S mobo, 128 mb ram, 20 gb
ATA100, and an
ATI Xpert98 AGP vid card. Whenever a download is started
through IE 5.5
the system locks at about 65% completion. I have the latest
BIOS
installed, and the latest VIA 4in1 pack. There is nothing
installed on the
drive besides the base 98SE install and IE 5.5 which came off
the MS IE
cd. The hdd is fine, it checked out ok with WinTune98,
Sandra, and
Maxtor's MaxBlast diagnostics. The modem is a USR PCI model,
the sound
card is a Creative SB128 PCI. The browser as I said locks
with any and all
downloads, be they from the MS updater or anyone else. Any
idea's?
