This is unlikely to work. A *.dl_ file is usually a compressed file, and you will need to use the Expand utility to extract it. At a command prompt, type Expand/? for switches. Soooo..........I copied the file from the XP CD, which was called hal.dl_ and changed the name to hal.dll and put it in the WINDOWS\system32 directory and changed to not have it hidden.
