One of my computers has a hard drive, a floppy drive and a CD-ROM. I want to put a CDRW on it so I took the cover off to see what I could see.
I expected the hard drive and the floppy drive to be on the same ribbon cable thinking that the hard drive would be the master and the floppy would be the slave, and the CD-ROM would be on a second ribbon cable. What I found was each device connected to three different ribbon cables which in turn are connected to three different connectors on the mother board. Here's what I found in the device manager under hard disk controllers. Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller. Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo). Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo). Can someone teach me a little about all this? Since it says "IDE" does this mean that I can not use an "EIDE" device?
