Summary: Most patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) are now living to become adults. but exhibit a high frequency of cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal and other organ diseases. This project proposes to collect blood samples from about 350 subjects with SCD who are over 18 years of age. The patients will then be followed for five or more years and the complications that appear will be documented . The blood samples will then be analyzed for genes, yet to be identified, that may correlate with the particular clinical problems that arise in this population.
