Helene,
It just dawned on me what you are referring to - I have noticed in the last
couple of days, especially the end of last week, this issue myself.
It seems to have coresponded with the changes Netscape has made to their
whole set of displays. What I am referring to is the difference that now
exists, for example, when you go to home.netscape.com. The new display is
VERY much different than the previous one you used to get.
Since I use my messager display to have folders on upper left, message
headers on upper right, and messages on the bottom, that is the perspective
I am using.
When I used to open messenger, I would get this news store graphic showing
up on the lower part of the display, and then my messages would
automatically start coming in from Earthlink - when I would click on a
message, the message would replace the graphic on the lower part of the
screen, and I would go from there.
However, after Netscape made the changes to the home.netscape.com page, I
now found that when I open messenger, this is no longer the same. When you
open messenger, it starts as previous - BUT almost immediately, it does as
you have found, and does the redirect issue, opens a new window which will
contain the previous news graphic, while the bottom of the window which
will have my messages will be totally blank. The folders for my messages as
well as any messages in the folder still show in the individual windows in
the upper left and right, but the bottom is totally empty. When I click on
a message, it opens as expected in the bottom of the screen and I can go on
from there.
I personally just close the window that Netscape redirects me to, and go
from there - since it does not give me anything new, I dont personally find
any reason to keep it open.
On the other hand, it seems the window that does open with the news graphic
is acting the same as any other navigator screen, so if you click on the
news graphic, it brings up the story associated with where you clicked.
I personally would not worry about the page thatt gets opened up when you
start messenger - when it opens, just close it and go back to your normal
messenger page to view your email.

Hi, another question.. The last several days.. when I get on line. (I
use earthlink. dial up).. and my home page.. is always Earthlinks home
page.. I first get a new page.. that says.. "Redirect- Messenger- Start-
Inbox- Netscape Folder".. (under this page, (which I can just get rid
of..)..is my regular Earthlink home page.. coming in..
I haven't changed any settings. and it's not just on my machine.. My mom
has it also(also has Earthlink) and we both use Netscape 4.7..
I called Earthlink, and they said, Maybe it's Netscape trying to get us
to use their page.. as a homepage.. Is anyone else, who uses Earthlink,,
having this same problem..
Thanks.
Helene
