Are they on your C drive? Or are they on a protected drive?

If they are regular old files on your C drive, try deleting your temp
files. Word makes a lot of temp files that don't always get deleted and
sometimes a corrupt temp file can cause this

If you don't know how to delete temp files, read my tutorial here:

Subject: PCWorks: deleting word files

Hi List
I'm trying to delete some of my old documents in Word 2000. However,
when I
click on "delete" I get an error message saying, "cannot delete---make
sure
the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not
currently
in use". I've never "write protected" any of my documents. Why can't I
delete? TIA
