I went on vacation and thought I'd use my IBM thinkpad to stay in touch. However, I was able to download only twice (with long distance charges) and after I changed to a more local number, couldn't download. the modem seems to have a lot of extra noise and the dialing is rather indistinct. After it "dials" (which seems to take a long time before it actually does it), there is a lot of static and then the phone line comes in with "the time alloted for you to dial has expired..." The modem recognizes when the phone line is disconnected from it (gives a warning about that). I've checked the setup under Control Panel | modems and all is as it was. When I try to use the Accessories | Phone Dialer, the same thing happens. I am using Win95b and I haven't changed anything on it.
