Why are you concerned about running with a selective startup.  The MSConfig is
where you can stop most load or startups for the system.  If you need to stop
something, then MSConfig is the place to do this and then it reads selective
startup.  I've been running with that for several years and unless I turn off
the autoexec, config.sys, win.ini and system.ini, it starts normally except for
the ones that I have turned off.
