It's some kind of update checker used by some computer manufacturers. You don't need it and some might even say it's spyware, though I really don't know as I don't use proprietary systems. See if it's in your startup list. Click Start>Run, type msconfig and click OK. Look under the Startup tab and if there uncheck it.
