To one and all,

I recently found that Netscape, unlike any of the previous
versions of
the program, has a issue that has not existed previous, and is
going to
be a *** BIG *** program to continue using it.

The problem is that, unlike version 3.x and 4.x, which worked
pretty
much identical no matter what version of windows you were
using,
especially with regard to email and news groups, version 7.1 is
VERY
different.

I found, after talking to one of the people at Netscape tech
support,
that the way the program is now written, along with the way the
profiles
are setup, that you can not set things up so you can just get
emails to
a common folder.

With 3.x and 4.x, you could have a dual/triple boot windows
system, and
have the corresponding version, no matter what version of
windows,
reference the same email folder. So you could get, read, act
on, and so
forth, your emails, no matter which OS you were using.

Now, that is not possible. You HAVE to use ONLY one version of
Netscape
7.1, to do email and news operations, or you will eventually
corrupt/destroy your emails. Since I will have a dual boot
system on my
new computer, of Win98 and WinXP, I no longer can get emails
and work on
them, no matter which version of Windows I am working in at the
time.

Since Netscape 4.79 is getting impossible to do email
operations in, and
this new problem with 7.1 has arisen, I need to find an email
as well as
newsgroup program to use, that can work across multiple OSs.

I dont like switching, but with this new issue, it can not be
avoided it
would seem, since I will be spending lots of time in both
versions of
Windows.

One idea I was thinking about is involving Office, which has
Outlook. I
have both Office 2K Pro as well as Office XP Pro.

One idea would be to install Office XP in both Win98 as well as
WinXP
(think it can work with 98), so was thinking of using that to
handle my
emails. I was also thinking of installing Office 2K in Win98
and Office
XP in WinXP, to avoid the issue of activation in 2 versions of
Windows,
though on the same system.

Since I have not used Outlook previous, was wondering, for
those more
familiar with it, can you reference, as I would like to do, a
common
email location on the hard drive across Office installs, such
as I would
like to do, or would I have the same kind of issues as am now
presented
with in Netscape 7.1.

Other than the idea of using Office, with Outlook, which am not
sure can
do what I would like to do, any other ideas of how to refence
emails
across multiple versions of Windows on the same computer???
