For free email clients I would choose the Netscape/Mozilla Messenger over OE without question, and in all fairness I would choose them over any version of Outlook too. Almost all my clients have moved away from MS for email clients and all have moved from the Exchange server so I have no need for these products.
I have used Eudora for some time now and I am VERY satisfied with it. In it's recent release (version 6) it is quite an accomplished client. I especially like that all the mailboxes can be opened in notepad and that it is very easy to backup.
It is a free download so you can have it in sponsored mode with a small ad window on the lower left. You can be rid of the ad's if you pay for it, and there is still the lite mode too. http://www.eudora.com/email/index.html.
I tried Pegasus once three years ago, I liked it but went back to Eudora. I found it to be very good but prefer Eudora more.
As for comparisons, Gerry is probably best for finding these http://www.expita.com/

Peter,
Thank you VERY VERY much for the reply and the link - is very useful info, that is for sure.
I was not aware that you could still read and act upon emails from 7.x back in 4.x - that would simply the issue considerably, if considering OE.
Since the biggest problems seems to involve OE, was wondering how the security and related issues with regard to Outlook is when compared to OEs track record - think Outlook is better but still has issues.
On another note, was wondering if you or any one else has used Pegasus Mail (not sure about the spelling right now) - a friend of mine has been using it apparently for a number of years and thinks it is absolutely great!!! After last weekend, when I was talking to him, he told me the program itself is totally free to individual users, with a printed user's manual only a couple of dollars. So I am wondering about this program, after the major big-time endorcement of my friend???
Also, after seeing a number of topics related to graphics and related, as pertains to Eudora, was wondering how this program is these days, since it no longer is one you get in the stores anymore - was also looking at this one at one time, but not totally sure anymore.
Do you know of any comparision charts or related type stuff that compared email and/or newsgroup programs available, either commercially or over the internet???
