Hello,

I purchased a Western Digital Caviar 4.3 drive about a yr. ago and was finally
going to use it as an additional drive in my system. When I purchased it, they
said it was a new system pull (that was upgraded) and was formatted to DOS. To
prepare the drive, (partition and format), I removed my original master drive
and installed this one. When i boot up, it says its detecting the drive but
never finds it. I went into the CMOS Setup and tried to detect it in there
also but it didn't. I had a couple other drives laying around and it would
detect them right away. I'm pretty sure this drive is no good but just wanted
to ask. The drive does spin up as I can hear it and feel it. The date on the
drive is Oct. 7, 2000. I have the jumper set to master. Have any of you been
able to get a drive like this to work in some way, shape or form? I know its
just a little drive and i should just probably throw it. It appears WD has
changed the warranty and dropped it to 1 yr. on the Caviar drives. so probably
no chance there. Just wondering...
