The latest version of ZA has fixed that Chkdisk problem. I am now running 5.1.011.000 and have no problems running the chkdisk. My earlier version did cause that problem.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from ZA. Among its issues, a major one
being you can no longer run scandisk on XP. That alone is reason to avoid
it.....if you value your data and stability.

I can't vouch for the latest Norton versions personally, but I do know it has
numerous issues as well.

Sygate uses MUCH less RAM and resources than either, it's MUCH less
intrusive, and MUCH more simpler to setup and maintain.

No, it's never good to use two software firewalls at once (other than the XP
firewall of which you should also have active). Best thing for you to do is
get a router. This is a MUST for DSL for at least two reasons. For one, get
one with a hardware firewall built in and this will give you an extra added
layer of hardware protection. Two, you never have to logon, it's "always on"
like cable, and it's faster than not using a router. A decent hardware
router and a software firewall like Sygate is your best bet. All of these
"most popular mainstream well-known name-brand" firewalls have too many
issues. Outpost is another good one, but it can be pretty complicated to
setup.

No, when your PC is off, it's OFF. Your HD is not spinning so it's
impossible to get in to it or out of it. The exception would be if you have
all of your wake up options enabled, which you shouldn't. In a case like
that, it's theoretically possible if you have WOL enabled for example, a
"packet" sent to your IP could wake up your PC. At any rate even if that
could happen, you'd still have your router firewall and your software
firewall to protect you. Also be sure to turn off any file and printer
sharing, and disable Network Neighbor browsing by anyone.

I presently have a dialup connection to the internet. Next week will be installing DSL and I thought it prudent to order Norton Internet Security which has a firewall function. I also have ZoneAlarm Pro and want to know if they will work together and if there would be any advantage using both? If not which one would you turn off? I also run Ad-Awhere 6 plus and Spybot and I have Windows XP pro for my OS. Am I correct in that when my computer is turned off I am still open to various h*cker type problems with DSL?

Thanks
