>>How can this be avoided without doctoring it up with eCleaner

Like I originally said:
That just depends on how you have OE setup ("Read" settings
and how wide your preview window is), and, on how the sender
is typing (whether or not they hit the [enter] key and their line
wrap settings.

I don't know how else to explain it Harold. BTW, those lines you said you
just copied and pasted do NOT look "normal" on my end. This is what I'm
referring to when I say it just depends on how one has their email program
setup, and whether or not they hit the [enter] key when typing to the end of
a line. Something may wrap, but it may not wrap correctly. I'm forcing
lines below by hitting the [enter] key:
------------------------------
Text usually appears like this if one never hits the
[enter] key.
Then the next line is longer than a previous line,
and this
layout goes on throughout the entire email regardless
of any >>> lines.
Exactly how this example *normally* appears without
forcing it
as I am here, depends on like I said, how the email
programs
are set under and "read" settings, and where the vertical
separator
bar is located in OE. When someone has the >>> fwd'ing
characters turned
on in their email program, it makes this even worse. Of
course no
amount of proper usage of the [enter] key will fix the "damage"
the >>>
lines will do. That's why I hate them since they will render a
long thread
unreadable. (And more text continues on here..........).
-------------------------------

How frequently one may hit the [enter] key while typing can
determine how this example may appear, but for the most
part if the [enter] key is hit frequently enough and not to the
extreme end of a line, it should be laid out like this. I'm
hitting the [enter] key in obvious places here, at the end of
each line you see. That's why it shows up in a uniform
manner. (And more text continues on here......).
------------------------------

Sorry but I don't know how else I can explain it if this doesn't work. The
bottom line (figuratively) is how an email may appear to me or you, can be
totally different that how the same email will appear to another, even if all
are using OE, UNLESS the typer is hitting the [enter] at regular intervals.
I don't use the [enter] key when I type. I let whichever program do the line
breaks. When I checked out "Stripmail", it put the text in nice formatted
lines and paragraphs AS SEEN IN THE PROGRAM ITSELF, but when I
pasted it into OE, of course it was different, the line breaks were in
different areas due to the margin difference between OE and Stripmail.

Hello again (using OE 6),

Trying not to belabor the group with this point; seems many have more
serious problems to discuss. I'm talking about seeing threads that look like
this:

> > Exactly, I hate those >> brackets too. When I have a long thread
> going with
> > a customer and I try and refer back to previous emails in the threads,
> I
> > can't! <snip>
> > -Clint

How can this be avoided without doctoring it up with eCleaner (which I've
always used) or StripMail (which I just downloaded to see how it works)? I
thought all that we were supposed to do (btw, I'm get the digest version of
PCWorks), is click reply, remove the postings that are not related,
<snip><snip> if needed, add the new text before or after the thread (that's
not my point), and all is well.

But all is NOT well if the thread looks like what you see above. If
doctoring the threads up with eCleaner or whatever, is necessary, then no
problem, that's what we'll do. I was just wondering if there is a way to
just click reply, insert new text (which always looks good), and the thread
would look as good as the new text without eCleaner etc. No matter how I
adjust the width of the window, I still see a "scattered" paragraph. If you
can, Clint, please explain in more detail what you are saying in the
following two paragraphs:

"That just depends on how you have OE setup ("Read" settings and how wide
your
preview window is), and, on how the sender is typing (whether or not they
hit
the [enter] key and their line wrap settings.

You can drag the vertical separator bar that separates the preview/read
email from the folder list, left or right to change how most text is
displayed in emails. Too small of an area to the right and text lines will
be of different length."

You'll note that these I just copied/pasted so they look like what a
paragraphs should look like. Had I used a eCleaner or StripMail or any of
the other fixer-uppers which are available, those paragraphs above would be
stretching out like all new text in this email is word wrapping. ... Harold
