Hello again --- On Friday, December 31, 2004, I brought up a problem:

"My Standby button on the keyboard works very well, in spite of the many
warnings from the group about some dangers in using it. So as long as there
is no problem, when I'm not by the computer, the computer is on Standby (no
fan going, system is resting, and I presume fewer resources are being used).
However I do notice that with AVG and Zone Alarm in the System Tray,
clicking Standby shuts the system down, but the computer will not
re-activate itself when moving the mouse or pressing a keyboard key.
Instead, the computer will freeze necessitating a cold boot up. To avoid
this aberration, I shut down both programs and then Standby works perfectly.
Question: Is there a way to make one shortcut (something like a batch file?)
that will close both programs, and maybe a way of making one shortcut that
will open both programs. It'll mean a few fewer clicks."

Now, like "all of a sudden" that problem (I called it an aberration then) no
longer exists. What caused the problem is as little known to me as to is
what fixed it. This only proves to me that as much as I know (which is
little compared to some of you guys), we are all, including the geniuses in
PCWorks, like the pioneers of the Old West. Some of us know how to fix our
wagon wheels never realizing that cars and planes are awaiting travelers in
the future. Today we are dabbling with the computer, as we know it today,
when great things are awaiting the users of tomorrow.

Were any of the great scientists of the past to return and see what
technology exists today, they would be considered ignoramuses. Ben Franklin
would be trying to fathom what resulted from his kite flying, and Pasteur
would be lost in any of today's hospitals. Again proving that the line
between genius and ignoramus is all relative to time. I guess Einstein
always knew that. I suppose I'm saying that ours is to take care of what
needs taking care of today and we'll let the gurus of the future worry about
their time ;-) . Harold
