Yeah, must be different. As you're probably aware, 219,656K is about 215Mb. Sounds like the other areas are also different. Under the "Performance" tab, Pro shows 4 "blocked" areas: "Totals", below it "Commit charge", to the right of "Totals" is "Physical memory", then below that I have "Kernel memory". http://orpheuscomputing.com/images5/TaskManager.gif (I'll leave the image there a couple of days). So if you *are* reading yours correctly, and what I said still applies, then you need more RAM. (BTW, I show two CPU areas in that screen shot under "CPU usage history" since I have a HyperThreaded CPU which XP Pro sees as a dual CPU's). -Clint

I am using XP home it must be different. My numbers are 6 digits with a K. Right now my Commit 219656K total, the Physical Memory is 47336K available. >The whole line should be something > like "172M/1247M" where the 1st # is PageFile usage and the > 2nd > # is PageFile available. That is under kernel Memory > I'm not > sure though what you mean by "272,388" as that figure. Is > that > number after the comma, the number that's after the / slash > mark? I don't have any commas or / slash marks. The 272,388K was the total under Commit Charge. > I think you're reading those figures wrong since of course > you > can't have more memory FREE UP after starting more programs. I've been keeping an eye on these numbers and the available physical memory goes down when I start a program but it goes back up as time goes by. At one time tonight I was down to 27,288K but it has come back up to 47232K without closing any programs. > Look at the "Performance" tab when you cont-alt-del for more > details. That's where I'm getting all these numbers. Ideally, (or maybe not so ideally), XP sets the PF > usage by default for 1.5x the amount of RAM for a minimum > size, > and either 2x or 3x the amount of RAM for max size (can't > recall which and it's not shown in mine). My Commit Charge limit is 635,276K The Kernel Memory where it says "paged" and "non "paged" has a total 45,984K, I don't know which of these you are referring to. > It couldn't hurt if you went to 512mb of RAM, that would > certainly help. I think this will probably be the solution for me. Thanks ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
