I posted earlier what was causing this.

"'Launch folder windows in a separate process' is checked on
mine. When you right click it, interesting what it says about
it. I thought that's checked by default on XP installs. Maybe
it's not, but I don't remember checking it."

As I recall on '98, you have to have explorer.exe running at
all times, it should be shown when you cont-alt-del. I can't
tell from your email if you commented on that, or if Meir did.
Of course '98 is different from XP in this area.

Thanks for the delete info, I'll hold on to that the next time
it happens.

Hi Clint --- With my using Windows 98, this might have nothing
to do with
your situation, but then maybe.

>From Clint
<snip>I just noticed moments ago when I tried to delete a
folder inside
another folder, that I could NOT delete the folder. I closed
the folders and
tried again, still couldn't delete it.<snip> --- Clint

Regarding folders that cannot be deleted, seldom but it's
happened, I get an
empty folder in my root C:\ that doesn't delete as it should. I
then use the
Registry as follows:

1. Go to:
Hkey_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\MyComp
uter\NameSpace
2. Expand the NameSpace key.
3. The unknown folder will be one of the subkeys
4. Delete it, and close the Registry . and the empty folder is
thus deleted.

>From Meir:
Clint, I just checked, and every time I open a new I.E. page, a
new
"explorer.exe" open's in the task manager i.e. three IE windows
open 3
"explorer.exe" files in the task manager, when a close a window
it closes in
the task manager Hope this helps --- Meir

When opening I.E. (Internet Explorer), I don't see any
"explorer.exe" listed
in Task Manager; I see "Microsoft Internet Explorer" (which is
not
explorer.exe). In fact, I never even see an extension in that
Ctrl/Alt/Del
window.

The other "explor...'s" I might get in Task Manager is when
opening a folder
(which I have configured for "Explore" rather than "Open") ...
then I get
"Exploring" with the name of the folder. And the third is the
generic one
that is never removed, "Explorer" (touching that is a
no-no) --- Harold
