Hello again (long time no hello),

And why is that? Because I am still on step numero uno for this Windows XP
system I have; it's a new Compaq Presario with tons of memory and space, and
I'm working on how to save files and folders from the hard drive onto a RW/CD
without them turning into "Read only" files and folders.

The Compaq/Hewlett-Packard technicians say it cannot be done; that RW/CD's are
not used to backup and EDIT documents but rather, are used only to backup
Setup files and Executable files. I tell them that is not the way it was in
Windows 98 and they answer that XP is different. Here's an example where
different is not necessarily better.

One technician said they were supposed to include a CD for "Sonic MyDVD Plus"
which would included a file called "MyDVD.MSI" (mydvd dot msi) which can be
used to avoid the "Read only" attribute. Well, I never saw that CD in the
carton and they will (should?) call me tomorrow morning to discuss that.

Another technician said that Sonic has nothing to do with "Read only" and that
I might purchase a DLA (whatever that is) or a USB Thumbnail Drive, or a
Secure Flash Media Card, all which will easily accept backups and not put them
into "Read only" ... more business for Staples.

What am I doing talking about all this; it's way over my head. Meanwhile, it's
good I still have all my important files and folders on the old HP Presario
Win 98 computer where I'll copy them all onto a new RW/CD (they won't be "Read
only" there (everything I have on this Compaq is now "Read only") . otherwise,
everything is fine, not complaining, and discovering that progress can
sometimes be two steps back and hopefully three steps forward; if I can't take
three steps forward, then where I am gong? . Harold
