Peter, I can't receive your original posts, so keep that mind. I only saw it because Hugh replied.
You should get AIDA32 if you or her doesn't yet have it. It will have to be a program called "Everest" since AIDA32 is no longer around. It's the same thing without the benchmarking suite plugins. It also has SMART monitoring functions and you need to compare its stats with SpeedFan since this SMART data can be erroneously reported many times. http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en Some mobo's BIOS may support SMART even if it's not seen in the BIOS. In these cases, it can't be disabled. If you see it listed in a BIOS, then it can usually be enabled/disabled at will. Keep in mind that enabling it can sometimes slow down a HD. Usually a mobo's Native controller (in her case, the VIA) will be what supports SMART, *INSTEAD OF* the 3rd party controller (in this case, the Promise). So the HD may have to be hooked up to the VIA controller for SMART status. This just depends on the mobo and many times this is not mentioned in the manual. -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hugh Vandervoort" IDE SMART is enabled in the bios. The manual seems to say nothing about SATA SMART at all. I checked in the ASUS forums (I have this board) and the recommendation is to download SpeedFan 4.27 at: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php This freeware program monitors SMART status and other factors.
