As my son works in that industry, first, I will say..... GET A MAC. He uses both, but for all the video editing that he does (both commercially and at home) he uses the mac as things go much easier and faster. With the new mac mini with the dual core, one could set up several in tandem and really cook for well less than the 4K. Large monitor is a must (21 in or bigger) which will eat part of that. Now, if it HAS to be windows xp and a pc, then get as much memory as possible, fast drives (mulitple with hundreds of gigs) and a fast graphic card.

A friend of mine is thinking of a video editing machine, I haven't touched this area in a while and am curious as to what others on the list would consider crucial in assembling there own setup.

Approx budget is 4k, and it is to be XP Pro based too for starters.

So what do you all think would be ideal?

I look forward to any and all input.

Thank you,
