Babs, have you opened the HOSTS file? It is without an extension.
The default MS HOSTS file contains one entry for 127.0.0.1 localhost on
every windows computer, but actually this address is the same for all
computers regardless of the OS.
So a corrupted or otherwise altered HOSTS file would contain other
entries which would prevent any html enabled application from viewing
content at those addresses. So in my HOSTS file I have an entry for
127.0.0.1 adservices.google.com which prevents all content at that
address from being viewed in my email or browsers.

Check your hosts file as it may have been corrupted, but also what
firewall are you using?
Your hosts file is found at: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and it
can be opened with notepad.
