Well I do not know where to begin.
I tried to do the repair thing and all got worse. Right now I can not get anything plugged into USB to be recognized. My printer will not print and it appears to be not seen by the printer installation software. I checked my computer with a USB reader plugged in and an SD chip in it and it does not show up either. I also checked the Device mgr and everything is there and appears functioning. After the repair the only thing the device mgr show is yellow on RealTek A97 audio. It keeps asking for a disc which I can not find. I was going to try a new install of Windows XP pro but when I booted from the CD it talked about partitions etc and I was afraid to go forward. It even said My Document might be deleted. (I have never partitioned my drive.) I do have a second drive and could install Windows there but thought I might be getting into trouble if I did. Is there something in BIOS that could have changed during all this? (regarding the USB thing.) I do not know how to get to my Bios as the screen goes by to fast.

Also When I tried to install Paperport it won't install it and has a error message about some patch that is not there.

Thanks

You could try to do a repair. If you boot from your WinXP cd at the first
option window select install not repair. At the second option after it
identifies existing WinXP installations on your disk, you can choose repair.
That will repair your WinXp install without losing your data. That being
said all your data should be backed up somewhere off of the WinXP partition.
If your cd is not a service pack 2 cd, you will have to reinstall that plus
many security patches. Ben

I have tried to again restore to a later date and now I have Windows Installer running almost continuosly. Maybe it would be a good idea to reinstall Windows XP Pro my question is will that affect my data?
Thanks
