Donna:
Do you have the right monitor cable, and have you swapped it out? If you
have not swapped the cable, try that.
Following is a link that gives pin-outs for 15 and 9 pin cables and
includes the DCC1 feature of the newer plug and play monitors.
Also check for bent male or pushed back female pins.

It sounds like the output level is low.
If you have integrated video, the video chip
could be defective, or the voltage to it could
have dropped. Also the output connector
could be defective.
If you have a video board,
it could be subject to the same fate. You
should try changing the video board or
installing one if you are using integrated
video.
