I put a Nividia GEForce 6300 graphics card in my new computer after I bought it. It was working fine until the other day when I downloaded the Windows Critical Updates. After that, clicking on pictures caused my monitor to go to sleep for a few seconds, turn back on with a message saying "Nividia drivers not responding or working properly". A few seconds later, it would say, "Drivers are working properly" and this would go on and off while I am looking at pictures. I uninstalled the critical update and looked at some pictures and it seemed ok. I reinstalled the update, figuring a critical update is necessary. The problem happened again. I searched all night last night for some kind of information on this problem and I can't come up with anything. I tried to play a game (Insaniquarium) for a few minutes to see what happens. It worked fine. So I clicked on the pictures again, and again the display would go on and off. As soon as you close out of any picture folder, this stops. I had a video of The White Stripes. I clicked on it and all of a sudden I get the blue screen saying a major problem happened with windows or something to that effect. It didn't stay up long enough to read the whole thing. It basically said that it had to shut down windows to protect itself from a major problem. The computer restarted and asked me how I would like to go into windows - in safe mode or start up normally. I told it to start up normally. Then I shut it down because I didn't know what else to do. Today I asked my husband to take out the graphics card and I uninstalled the drivers. I am really disappointed. Now I have to go out and get another graphics card, and I don't know what to look for. My graphics card was supposedly Windows Vista compatible. I have Windows Vista drivers for it, and it was working fine since I put it in, until the critical update. Also, after I got the blue screen , all of my restore points were lost in system restore, so I couldn't do a system restore.
Have any of you had this problem? Any graphics card recommendations? My computer is an HP Media Center PC m7760n - just bought it in March - came with Vista already installed, 2 gigs of Ram, 2 - 250 gig hard drives. BTW , new updates were available today and I installed them. I have no idea if they will fix the problem and I'm afraid to find out. LOL.
