Debian is :

crw-rw---- 1 root root 13,  64 2006-12-04 20:02 event0
crw-rw---- 1 root root 13,  65 2006-12-04 20:02 event1
crw-rw---- 1 root root 13,  66 2006-12-04 20:02 event2

I remember when I used [hid] a lot I had to :

# chmod a+r /dev/event*

before being able to read anything from it.
