sorry if i haven't followed this discussion properly,
but i have had trouble with making abstractions that can take either a symbol or float as an argument. the only way i could manage was to make a (f $1) object and a (symbol $1) object...and then direct them both to (list2symbol) but it gives errors in the pd window.
