Linux uses a different device structure (Video4Linux) for video input than OS X, so [pdp_v4l] will never work.
In short, Linux users can access a USB camera with [pdp_v4l], but not a firewire one. OS X users can access a firewire camera with [pdp_ieee1394], but not a USB one. If you use GEM on OS X, you can access either. You might need the macam drivers to use the USB camera: http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ best, d.
