that error that you are citing, is that for compilation on a 64-bit
machine?

Since there's a package.txt file with it, the external is meant to
be compiled with the flext build system.
You can have a look at the flext readme.txt or build.txt files.
It boils down to the following:
sh path_to_flext/build.sh pd gcc
sudo sh path_to_flext/build.sh pd gcc install
I still have an error on ubuntu g++ 4.4.3 :
