for font support you need "ftgl-dev" (nowadays often called "libftgl-dev") a good start on debian (and clones, like ubuntu) is to install all the build-dependencies for the regular "gem" package by issuing # apt-get build-dep gem (or for those feeble at heart: % sudo apt-get build-dep gem dfmas IOhannes
