are you sure you are running the debian version of Pd?
(e.g. just typing "pd" on the console might start any Pd which happened
to be in the PATH).
did you uninstall pd-l2ork? (maybe this is broken somehow)

do you have any weirdo GUI plugins or libraries loaded??

is most likely *not* from a Debian package, because the Debian package
uses /usr/lib/puredata/tcl/pd-gui.tcl
