hmm, I was actually opening the patch in a compiled version with the latest
state of the github, so it actually doesn't crash with 0.50-2

now, either something broke with some of the latest changes or somehow I
compiled it in a way that caused the problem.

Anyway, we should use this patch to test the latest developments in vanilla
to see if there's any trouble.
