I presume Pd 0.55-2 still works on your machine - if so, can you open
it, save your preferences to a file, and then try
erasing all preferences and reopening Pd 0.56? (you can get your
preferences back later if you've saved them to a file first :)
This is a guess, but it sounds like something is getting loaded or set
that 0.56 can't swallow for some reason.
