#N canvas 'X' 52 538 400 12;
with a negative X parameter in the canvas definition line
the patch appears from the right side of the screen when the value is
-13 or beyond.
in between -1 and -12 the patch is invisible.
before i figured this out it felt like i had a ghost patch
that would not open.
