The first sentence suggests that Pd (as opposed to the system) does not recognize the device. It's not clear to me whether your problem is that Pd not always connects to the right device (which might happen when device numbering changes) or if your system doesn't always list the device in available devices. Depending on what your actual problem is, the solution is different. Roman
